I’m a big fan of David Meerman Scott, the author of The New Rules of Marketing and PR: How to Use News Releases, Blogs, Podcasting, Viral Marketing and Online Media to Reach Buyers Directly and I love this video. It is a quick take on marketing in the new economy. Watch it here to find out how to market your business in the new economy: DM Scott, Marketing
Okay, okay, I know you’re not really going to watch here so here is the gist. When he surveyed people all over the world to find out where they look when they need products and services, 100% of people said they go to Google (or somewhere else on the Internet)! Moral of the story: if you want to get found when customers need you, you better be easily found on the Internet.
Here’s another way to do that: Add your business to the Google Local Business Center.
Google Local Business Center enables you to list your business geographically. Meaning that when someone in your area googles you product or service, you should show up top in the search results on the Google Map. It’s really pretty simple, and it’s free. Simply log into your existing google account under “Google Local Business Listings” and click “add new listing.” Google lets you put URL, contact info, photos, and even video on this Local Business Center, and it’s all free! Can’t beat that. Thanks Google!
